Tetsumi Kudo (1935-1990, Japan) belonged to a generation of Japanese artists for whom Nagasaki and Hiroshima provided both an artistic Year Zero and a constant point of reference for their art. He became known in the 50s and 60s for his intimate installations and happenings, which combined a Zen aesthetic, a kitsch sense of humour, and strong environmental and political beliefs.
