Working in the diverse media of oil painting and performance art, Ma Liuming (1969, China) reconsiders the traditional boundaries between male and female, artist and audience. Whether performing as Fen-Ma Liuming (women's face, man's body), or superimposing a baby's body onto a self-portrait, his work holds a mirror up to us all.
The artist was featured in our exhibition, Femmes de Chine, and can be seen in "Alors la Chine?" at the Pompidou Centre (25 June - 13 October 2003).
